Adrienne Barbeau joins Fright-O-Verse’s “REAL MATURE”

Up-and-coming horror production company Fright-O-Verse has scored a serious coup for its upcoming “psychosexual horror thriller” short REAL MATURE: Genre legend Adrienne Barbeau (THE FOG, CREEPSHOW, SWAMP THING) has come aboard as the omniscient narrator of this “surreal look at the bitter end of a relationship through the eyes of a spirit scorned.”

REALMATUREBARBEAUNEWS“My parents were kind enough to stoke my prepubescent nightmares by letting me watch SWAMP THING and CREEPSHOW over and over again on HBO in the mid-’80s,” screenwriter and novelist Andrew Bonazelli tells Fango. “So having Adrienne participate in REAL MATURE is an insane dream come true.”

“To have Adrienne express interest in the project was humbling,” director DJ Woolridge (pictured right with Barbeau and Fright-O-Verse’s Ken Whiting) adds. “She loved Andrew’s script. It was daunting to work with someone who has the breadth her career has, but she really elevated the short. She was perfect.”

Despite its extremely outré approach, the harrowing mini-mindbender transgresses not for mere shock value, according to Woolridge, but in order to expose and explore the often unacknowledged “ugly underbelly” of human relationships and love gone wrong. “REAL MATURE is not just about love lost, but also unfulfilled ambition, curdled regret, damaged paradigms and destructive anger,” Woolridge says. “Of course, it also has a lot of sex and violence in it—which are the fun parts of making a horror movie, no matter how offbeat it is. It was a rewarding challenge bringing Andrew’s work to life.”
