Announcement: Clay McLeod Chapman’s “THE PUMPKIN PIE SHOW” Joins the FANGORIA Podcast Network!

,,,

Earlier this month, FANGORIA launched our official Podcast Network, bringing Bailey Jay’s BLOOD LUST Podcast, the MONSTER PARTY Podcast and WE’LL SEE YOU IN HELL with Joe DeRosa and Patrick Walsh to the masses. Afterwards, FANGORIA announced the acquisition of THE HORROR SHOW and THE RANTS MACABRE to the FANGORIA Podcast Network, joining our platform as a part of the first wave of September programming. Now, FANGORIA is extremely excited to announce our second Original Podcast as a part of the second wave of September programming, as we are bringing THE BOY co-writer Clay McLeod Chapman’s acclaimed monologue series THE PUMPKIN PIE SHOW to the FANGORIA Podcast Network!

“When I was curating potential programs for the network, I was focused on two things: talent and variety,” said FANGORIA Podcast Network producer Ken Hanley. “And when I saw Clay McLeod Chapman do THE PUMPKIN PIE SHOW live at the Stanley Film Festival earlier this year, I not only knew I was watching an incredible talent at work, but he was doing something I had never quite seen before. So for FANGORIA, we could not be more anxious to unleash something so different and disturbing as THE PUMPKIN PIE SHOW onto listeners around the world.”

Written by Chapman and performed by Chapman and actress Hanna Cheek, THE PUMPKIN PIE SHOW has been a staple of the New York theatre scene for nearly 20 years. Chapman and Cheek have traveled around the country with the emotional live performance show as well. With this upcoming podcast, Chapman and Cheek will be putting the show out to a wide audience for the very first time, including tales both old and new. Furthermore, Chapman and Cheek will have complete creative freedom over the biweekly show, allowing them to go to the darkest depths of their imagination for THE PUMPKIN PIE SHOW.

For those unfamiliar, here is the official synopsis for THE PUMPKIN PIE SHOW…

Celebrating its second decade of performances, THE PUMPKIN PIE SHOW is a literary fist in the face. Part storytelling session, part boxing match, part shamanistic ritual, THE PUMPKIN PIE SHOW has established itself as an all-points artistic hodgepodge of theatre and literature.  We pick and choose the essentials of both mediums, channeling their rocking properties in order to create a more intimate relationship between performer and audience. Our goal is to strip away the elements that we find extraneous to the tale being told, conjuring up an atmosphere of “creating something out of nothing,” as well as focusing on that ethereal connective tissue between the one telling the story and our audience. Packed with enough emotional intensity to feel like a rock concert rather than just spinning a yarn, THE PUMPKIN PIE SHOW is pure bedtime stories for adults.

“Hanna and I are totally excited to dig through nearly twenty years worth of perverse pleasures to bring to people’s podcasting ears,” said Chapman. “You’ve been warned.”

And here’s what the press has had to say about THE PUMPKIN PIE SHOW in the past…

“One of the absolute best bets of any New York City spooky season is the annual iteration of the visceral PUMPKIN PIE SHOW… If you’ve not experienced PUMPKIN PIE before, you’re very much in for something special.” – Former FANGORIA.com Managing Editor Sam Zimmerman

“These are weird, creepy tales, but they are more than that. At his best, Mr. Chapman uses the macabre to explore the humanity of his characters and reveal an almost spiritual side to the horrific.” – The New York Times

“A taste of Southern Fried American Gothic that will send shivers down your spine.” – Time Out New York

“[THE PUMPKIN PIE SHOW] has become one of downtown New York theater’s best-kept secrets—a cult success that loyal fans eagerly await every Halloween.” – The Brooklyn Rail

“[THE PUMPKIN PIE SHOW] will leave you horrified, aghast, and titillated in places you didn’t even know were possible… The ultimate Halloween celebration.” – NYTheaterNow
