Bruno Mattei goes Blu: “HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD” and “RATS” in hi-def!

Two of the grottiest Italian horror films ever are getting high-definition makeovers, as a double feature of flicks by director Bruno Mattei, co-scripted and co-directed by TROLL II’s Claudio Fragasso, is coming on Blu-ray this summer.

Blue Underground has announced that it will issue a Blu-ray pairing HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD (pictured above) and RATS: NIGHT OF TERROR on August 26. HELL, a.k.a. NIGHT OF THE ZOMBIES, follows a SWAT team to New Guinea to confront an outbreak of flesh-munching undead, a female reporter who goes topless to communicate with a native tribe and lots of stock footage; RATS is set in the year 225 A.B. (After the Bomb), when a gang of scavengers must battle for their lives against mutated, super-smart rodents. Both films will be presented in brand new hi-def transfers from the original uncut, uncensored camera negatives, in 1080p 1.85:1 widescreen with DTS-HD Master Audio, plus the following extras:

• “Bonded by Blood”: Interviews with Fragasso and stars Margit Evelyn Newton, Franco Garofalo, Ottaviano Dell’Acqua and Massimo Vanni

• “Hell Rats of the Living Dead”: Interview with Mattei

• Theatrical trailers

• Poster and still galleries
