“BUNYAN” is an “AXE GIANT” this summer; new poster, trailer

The mountain legend comes to teen-killing life in a film previously known as BUNYAN, and now known as AXE GIANT: THE WRATH OF PAUL BUNYAN for release this summer. Keep reading for details and the new poster and trailer.

Directed by Gary Jones from a script he wrote with Jeff Miller and Jason Ancona (the three also produced), AXE GIANT follows a group of youthful offenders who are sent to a boot camp in the woods, where they run afoul of Bunyan, reimagined here as a towering monster with a literal ax to grind against anyone who invades his turf. Joe Estevez, Dan Haggerty, Tom Downey, and Tim Lovelace, Amber Connor, Jesse Kove (son of Martin Kove), Kristina Kopf, Clifton Williams, Victoria Ramos, Jill Evyn and former WWF wrestler Chris Hahn star; Robert Kurtzman’s Creature Corps created most of the makeup FX, while Midnight Syndicate’s Edward Douglas composed the music. Virgil Films has acquired the movie (the Audience Award winner at last November’s Shockfest Film Festival) for distribution, with theatrical bookings to be handled by Cinema Purgatorio and a DVD/VOD release slated for June 18; Archstone Distribution is taking care of foreign sales.

“We look forward to more audiences seeing this dark take on the Paul Bunyan legend,” Miller says. “Brady Bowen at Archstone came out to our premiere in the pouring rain, Joe [Amodei] at Virgil has been behind the movie since he saw it, and Ray [Privett] at Cinema Purgatorio is excited about showing the movie to theatrical audiences. Gary and I are pleased to have them as partners. And we will have more exciting news to announce soon.”
