Cast grows for asylum-set Poe adaptation, “ELIZA GRAVES”

Brad Anderson, director of SESSION 9 and THE MACHINIST, is about to get underway on ELIZA GRAVES, a mental institution horror story with some stellar inmates. HARRY POTTER’s David Thewlis and the fantastic Brendan Gleeson are just the latest to join.

Gleeson and Thewlis will star alongside an exciting lineup that includes Michael Caine, Ben Kingsley, Jim Sturgess (great in Phillip Ridley’s under-seen HEARTLESS) and Kate Beckinsale in the film about a young doctor who comes to a mental institution as an apprentice, only to find something’s gone very wrong.

Written by Joe Gangemi, ELIZA GRAVES is based on Edgar Allan Poe’s “The System of Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether,” a short story previously adapted many times, including by ALUCARDA director Juan López Moctezuma in THE MANSION OF MADNESS. One of Anderson’s most acclaimed and effective films, the aforementioned SESSION 9, was also set in an asylum, albeit an abandoned one. [Deadline]
