Cover Revealed: Scott Snyder and Jock Aim for Redefinition With “WYTCHES”

,

Scott Snyder, acclaimed writer of AMERICAN VAMPIRE, is reteaming with his DETECTIVE COMICS collaborator and lauded artist Jock on something very exciting indeed. This fall, Image Comics publishes WYTCHES, which sees Snyder and Jock put a conceivably thrilling spin on a horror mainstay.

Revealing the Jock-illustrated cover out of Image Expo 2014 (another is below), Comic Book Resources also brought the official solicitation text/synopsis of WYTCHES #1, which hits shelves October 8.

Snyder previously told FANGORIA some tantalizing details about the book, explaining “It’s easily the scariest book I’ve done… The story is basically that witches aren’t what we imagine they are. We thought they were these humans that worshipped the devil and so on, but everyone that we thought were witches were just worshippers of the real witches, which are these very old, terrifying creatures that live deep in the woods. They’re nine, ten feet tall and very scary. It’s going to be a lot of fun.”

As you might imagine, that jibes with the official crunch from Image, which reads:

Across the globe, century after century, men and women were burned, drowned, hanged, tortured, imprisoned, persecuted, and murdered for witchcraft. None of them were witches. They died protecting a terrible and hidden truth: witches, real witches, are out there. They are ancient, elusive, and deadly creatures that are rarely seen and even more rarely survived. This October, superstar creators SCOTT SNYDER (SEVERED, Batman) and JOCK (SNAPSHOT, Batman) unveil WYTCHES, and introduce you to a world of unimaginable horror in a special EXTRA-SIZED FIRST ISSUE with 30 pages of story and no ads for just $2.99

Find both covers of WYTCHES#1 below, as well as preview of the book’s first pages. Expect more on the title at Fango this year.
