Danielle Harris film “SHIVER” and “OUTPOST III” land distribution

With the Cannes Film Festival in full swing, distribution deals are being announced right and left, and today comes word that two independent horror features have been snapped up for Stateside release.

Image Entertainment has announced that has grabbed all U.S. rights to SHIVER (pictured above), directed by THE LAST HORROR MOVIE’s Julian Richards and written and produced by Robert Weinbach, based on Brian Harper’s novel. Fango fave Danielle Harris stars as Wendy Alden, a young secretary who becomes the target of serial killer Franklin Rood (WOLF CREEK’s John Jarratt). After she escapes him once, he becomes obsessed with her and sets out to recapture her. Casper Van Dien, Rae Dawn Chong, Valerie Harper and Eurohorror/action vet Brad Harris co-star. “The horror/genre community has created a lot of positive word of mouth online about this highly anticipated film,” says Image’s Bill Bromiley. “Their support will push this title to its success, and we’re thrilled to add this film to our slate.”

At the same time, Content Film has announced that its sci-fi/horror sequel OUTPOST III: RISE OF THE SPETSNAZ has been picked up for the U.S. by XLrator Media, which released OUTPOST II: BLACK SUN last year. The latest in the successful franchise, which gets into the origins of its Nazi zombies, was directed by Kieran Parker from a script by Rae Brunton, and stars Bryan Larkin, Ben Lambert, Velibor Topic, Iván Kamarás, Ryan McHenry, Douglas Russell, Michael McKell and Ultimate Combat World Heavyweight Champion James “The Colossus” Thompson as “The Berserker.” (The “Spetsnaz,” by the way, is an Russian paramilitary special-ops team.) Specific release plans have not been annouced for either movie yet, but we’ll keep you posted!
