Distributors get “UNDER THE SKIN,” pick up “FORECLOSURE” at TIFF

With the Toronto International Film Festival in full swing, news of distribution deals for genre fare has started emerging, beginning with two announcements today.

Deadline reveals that A24 is sewing up a $1-million acquisition of U.S. rights to UNDER THE SKIN (pictured above), which screened as a Special Presentation at TIFF last night. Directed by SEXY BEAST’s Jonathan Glazer from a script by Walter Campbell, based on Michael Faber’s novel, UNDER THE SKIN stars Scarlett Johansson as the seductive Earthly incarnation of an alien that traverses Scotland seeking human male prey.

Deadline also reports that Virgil Films made a deal at TIFF to pick up U.S. rights to FORECLOSURE, for VOD release in early 2014. Richard Ledes wrote and directed the film, lensed by frequent Dario Argento collaborator Frederic Fasano and starring THE SOPRANOS’ Michael Imperioli as a man who moves his young son (Spencer List) and father-in-law into a foreclosed family home in Queens, only to find scary stuff dwelling within. Bill Raymond, Wendell Peirce, Meital Dohan, Matt Servitto and David Costabile also star. “Richard Ledes has created a compelling drama that also happens to be a shocking horror film,” says Virgil president Joseph Amodei; Fango spent time on the FORECLOSURE set, so look for more coverage as the movie gets closer to release.
