DVDetails, Art: Swedish, Raimi-inspired, “WITHER”

The first proper horror release from exciting, young distributor Artsploitation Films is Sonny Laguna and Tommy Wiklund’s cabin in the woods tale, WITHER.

Taking a clear page from the ultimate in low budget demonic, woodsy terror EVIL DEAD, the film finds a group of friends holed up in a vacation home besieged by a creature unleashed from the basement. Sopping in blood and creative in FX, WITHER hits DVD August 20 accompanied by an eight-page booklet (as is the norm with Artsploitation’s great releases), deleted material and a behind-the-scenes featurette.

Post WITHER, the boutique company seems to be focusing on genre for a spell, with late 2013 bringing the Chilean HIDDEN IN THE WOODS, Korean anthology HORROR STORIES, the acclaimed ANIMALS, the Elijah Wood-backed TOAD ROAD and Argentina’s MEMORY OF THE DEAD.
