Emma Stone replaced in “CRIMSON PEAK”

Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming windswept Gothic ghost story CRIMSON PEAK has found a new heroine.

Originally set to star Emma Stone (EASY A), The Wrap is reporting she’s come up against scheduling conflicts and STOKER standout Mia Wasikowska is in talks to take over. If so, Wasikowska would take on the role of “young author Edith Cushing who discovers that her charming new husband is not who he appears to be.” She joins PACIFIC RIM’s Charlie Hunnam, Jessica Chastain (the del Toro-produced MAMA) and Benedict Cumberbatch.

The director previously referenced the Brontë sisters as a part of his CRIMSON PEAK mindset. Fitting then, that Wasikowska just recently starred in Cary Fukunaga’s really strong adaptation of JANE EYRE. Just last week, del Toro talked up his Gothic romance with ghosts and told Fango what to expect from its more horrific content, deeming the film “a little kinky.” You can read that here.
