Event Report: FANGORIA’s Star-Studded “COVER TO COVER” Signing at NYC’s Forbidden Planet!

Forbidden Planet: It’s New York City’s mecca of Nerd Culture and fandom in all of its forms. Forbidden Planet NYC is also one of the few locations from around the world brave enough to carry both FANGORIA and GOREZONE as well as official FANGORIA apparel. So when it came time to find a place for FANGORIA to host our signing of Cemetery Dance’s COVER TO COVER coffee table book, the choice was a no-brainer: the FANGORIA staff and various NY-based horror celebrities would gladly venture into Forbidden Planet.

Upon entering Forbidden Planet, a favorite spot for this writer when in NYC, the place was packed with fans of all walks of life. Whether it’s crowded graphic novel and comic book section to the various action figures on display, the store was incredibly busy, and even with over an hour before the signing began, there were fans lined up to get their COVER TO COVER books signed. And soon enough, FANGORIA and our very special guests arrived in similar fashion, taking our respective places at the designated signing table.

On the FANGORIA side, there was 20+ year FANGORIA Editor, FANGORIA Radio personality and current Editor Emeritus Tony Timpone, a FANGORIA legend if there ever was one; longtime FANGORIA President and Owner, Thomas DeFeo; 20+ year Managing Editor for FANGORIA Magazine and NY-based horror personality Michael Gingold; longtime Art Director for FANGORIA and GOREZONE W.R. Mohalley and yours truly, FANGORIA.com Managing Editor Ken Hanley.

As for our ghoulish guests, there was none other than FANGORIA Radio co-host and Troma all-star Debbie Rochon; BASKET CASE, FRANKENHOOKER and BAD BIOLOGY director Frank Henenlotter;  SQUIRM, BLUE SUNSHINE and SATAN’S LITTLE HELPER director Jeff Lieberman; HABIT, WENDIGO, THE LAST WINTER and BENEATH director as well as Glass Eye Pix head Larry Fessenden; FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND and FANGORIA artist Basil Gogos; Former FANGORIA Contributor turned scribe for CARRIE (2013), THE TOWN THAT DREADED SUNDOWN (2014) and AFTERLIFE WITH ARCHIE Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa; SHARKNADO trilogy and HEADLESS HORSEMAN director Anthony Ferrante; SFX mastermind and esteemed actor/director Tom Savini and our special surprise guest, genre icon Dick Miller!

After some unexpected delays, the signing began at 6:30 p.m. with a line going around the block with excited horror fans. For the next two hours, both staff and guests remained busy signing more COVER TO COVER books than we could count, with guests also signing select merchandise, issues of FANGORIA and posing with fans for free photo-ops. All the while, the mood stayed lively, fun and wicked, and the great folks at Forbidden Planet were more than gracious with their accommodations.
