Exclusive: giant-wasp thriller “STUNG” flies into release this summer

Fresh off its premiere screenings at this month’s Tribeca Film Festival, the insects-amok flick STUNG is going into general distribution in a few months, and we’ve got the exclusive on the exact date.

Fango has learned that STUNG will open in select theaters and VOD July 3 (just in time for the 4th of July picnic weekend!) as an IFC Midnight release. A mix of gruesome horror and comedy with plenty of practical creature FX and gore, STUNG was directed by Benni Diez from a script by Adam Aresty. Jessica Cook and Matt O’Leary star as a couple of young caterers working a garden party at a remote mansion who wind up leading a fight to survive when oversized, mutated wasps attack. Clifton Collins Jr. and Lance Henriksen co-star in STUNG, which plays tomorrow and Saturday at the Stanley Film Festival; see our review of the movie here.
