Exclusive Premiere: The Macabre Motion Poster for “THE FOREST”!

While 2015 was a bit of a disappointment in terms of the genre, one cannot deny that 2016 aims to rectify that in a big way. In fact, not only does 2016 look to offer up stronger scares, but they will do so rather immediately as January 8th brings THE FOREST, Jason Zada’s terrifying ghost story that surrounds the real life Aokigahara Forest, a place morbidly renowned as a real life suicide forest in Japan. And while the film is still a little less than a month away, FANGORIA is excited to reveal the first motion poster from the fright flick, which you can check out below!

For those unfamiliar, here’s the official synopsis for THE FOREST…

Rising with terrifying grandeur at the base of Mr. Fuji in Japan, the legendary real-life Aokigahara Forest is the suspense-filled setting of the supernatural thriller.  A young American woman, Sara (Natalie Dormer), journeys there in search of her twin sister, who has mysteriously disappeared. In the company of expatriate Aiden (Taylor Kinney), Sara enters the forest having been well warned to “stay on the path.” Determined to discover the truth about her sister’s fate, Sara will have to face the angry and tormented souls of the dead that prey on anyone who dares come near them. These malevolent spirits lying in wait for Sara at every turn will plunge her into a frightening darkness from which she must fight to save herself.

Starring Natalie Dormer (GAME OF THRONES), co-written by HANNIBAL’s Nick Antosca and produced by David S. Goyer (DARK CITY, THE UNBORN), THE FOREST will certainly be a film to watch. Between THE FOREST and RINGS, the J-Horror subgenre might just surprisingly take the zeitgeist mantle from the standard haunted house film. Add in the terrifying true horror behind the concept (which you should look up for yourself; it’s genuinely eerie stuff!) and THE FOREST has the recipe to be something really creepy. We’ll all find out for ourselves when THE FOREST hits theaters from Gramercy Pictures on January 8th, 2016, and check back for more on THE FOREST here at FANGORIA.com!
