Everybody do the mamba: The reptilian cult fave VENOM is making its Blu-ray debut later this year, courtesy of Blue Underground. Jump past the jump for the exclusive details and pair of covers!

VENOM arrives from BU on a Collector’s Edition Blu-ray/DVD combo May 31. Originally set to be directed by Tobe Hooper, who was replaced after about a week of shooting by BLOOD ON SATAN’S CLAW’s Piers Haggard, and based on the novel by best-selling author Alan Scholefield, the film features genre legends Klaus Kinski and Oliver Reed, along with Sterling Hayden, Nicol Williamson, Sarah Miles, Susan George and some real black mamba snakes. The synopsisssss: “It was supposed to be the perfect crime: the sexy maid [George], a psychotic chauffeur [Reed] and an international terrorist [Kinski] kidnap a wealthy 10-year-old boy from his elegant London townhouse. But they didn’t count on a murdered cop, a desperate hostage siege and one very unexpected houseguest: a furious black mamba, the most lethal and aggressive snake known to nature. It can attack from 10 feet away. Its bite brings excruciating death. And it is on the loose.”

The Blu-ray will sport a new 2K 1080p hi-def transfer from the original negative, in 16×9-enhanced 1.85:1 widescreen, and the discs will feature soundtracks in DTS-HD 7.1, Dolby Digital Surround EX 5.1, DTS-HD 2.0/DTS-ES 6.1 and stereo. The package will come with a reversible sleeve (both artworks seen below), and the special features are:

• Audio commentary by Haggard
• Theatrical trailer
• Teaser trailer
• TV spots
• Poster and still gallery
• Bonus collectable booklet featuring new writing by Fango’s own Michael Gingold

Retail price is $29.98.
