THE HUNT is the story of a father and son who set out on a hunting trip to repair their fractured relationship. They soon find themselves under siege by a strange and horrifying creature.

Curator’s Note:
I am a big fan of monster films, and seriously do not feel there is enough of them out there on the circuit – especially with short films that are well done. THE HUNT by director Spencer Estabrooks (DEADWALKERS) is a well-produced, tightly scripted short (perfect length in my opinion) that makes great use of practical special fx and overall has created a great monster! This film also happens to be a local Calgary production, which I am proud of and support, and is the start of a full-length feature film which is slated for 2014.

Director Bio:
By day Spencer Estabrooks archives cartoons for Warner Brothers and Cartoon Network and by night he follows his passion for writing and filmmaking. His short film “The Hunt” recently screened at Cineplex Theatres across Canada as a part of the Sinister Cinema. One of his latest passion projects, “One Hit Die” launched online this past August.

The 11th Calgary Underground Film Festival runs April 7-13, 2014 – details at www.calgaryundergroundfilm.org
