Fantastic Fest Clip: Australian Zombie Film, “WYRMWOOD”

If we’ve got to keep making zombie movies, then manic Australians wearing hubcaps as armor looks like the way to go.

As this year’s best zombie film THE BATTERY is on the eve of its Blu release, another hopeful shot-in-the-subgenre’s arm awaits its World Premiere at this month’s Fantastic Fest. From Australian filmmaking team, the Roache-Turner Brothers—directed by Kiah Roache-Turner and written by Kiah and Tristan Roache-Turner—WYRMWOOD looks wyld-wood (I’m sorry) and poised to be a gonzo good time.

WYRMWOOD has a familiar set up as a gent named Barry is stranded midst the hordes, attempting to reach far off family and having to fend off equally dangerous man and monster. This clip however reveals an energy, and a national cinematic DNA that modifies cars into machines of madness, that could set WYRMWOOD apart.

Twitch premiered the below excerpt. Find the video and the Fantastic Fest film guide entry, below. Austin’s Fantastic Fest runs September 18-25 at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar and FANGORIA is a proud sponsore of the 2014 Shorts Programs. For more, see our first previews on THE STOMACH and SOLITUDO, and expect a ton from Austin as FF gets underway.
