First Teaser: Kaiju Continuation, “MONSTERS: DARK CONTINENT”

After his stunning debut MONSTERS was received with wide acclaim, director Gareth Edwards moved on to rebooting one of cinema’s great creatures. His original creations were not to be left behind, however. Director Tom Green (of UK series MISFITS) has helmed a sequel of sorts that continues to explore a world in which giant extraterrestrials are a part of daily life. Filmed in Jordan and set within a Middle Eastern infected zone, our first glimpse of MONSTERS: DARK CONTINENT is here.

“From my first visit to the location shown here, in Jordan, it was somewhere I felt was key to making Dark Continent work,” Green tells Empire, who premiered the clip. “The moonscape-like environment was the perfect basis for an ‘alien’ landscape. The quarry trucks you see here became ‘buggies’ to transport the remains of firebombed monster herds to be incinerated, with all the leading characters emerging from the dust to witness the scale of the death toll for the first time — and for one character maybe too many times…”

MONSTERS: DARK CONTINENT stars Johnny Harris (BLACK DEATH, THIS IS ENGLAND ’86) and SKINS’ Joe Dempsie. Expect the film in 2014.
