“FREAKED” out on Blu-ray soon!

One of the best horror/comedies and monster-makeup movies of the ’90s is going hi-def this summer.

Anchor Bay Entertainment will issue Alex Winter and Tom Stern’s FREAKED on Blu-ray August 6, with a retail price of $17.99. Cover art has yet to appear, and details haven’t been announced; we’ll keep you posted as to whether the marvelous extras from the Bay’s now-out-of-print double-DVD set will make the transition. Winter (whose terrific Napster documentary DOWNLOADED opens in New York June 21, and hits additional cities and VOD July 1) also stars in FREAKED as Ricky Coogan, an arrogant young TV star who becomes a captive of Elijah C. Skuggs (Randy Quaid) in his menagerie of misshapen mutants, with makeup FX by Steve Johnson, Tony Gardner and Screaming Mad George. Check out our retrospective interview with Winter on FREAKED in Fango #316.
