From the FANGORIA Vault: “THE BROOD”

Horror has taught many lessons to those of us who’ve grown up with the genre, but few have been as poignant as “family first.” After all, we’ve all seen the handiwork of THE BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, SON OF DRACULA and more than a fair share of cannibalistic clans. Yet here at the FANGORIA Vault, we do know that family doesn’t always last forever, and in those cases, the claws can come out. And luckily for us, we’ve uncovered the perfect example with these rare shots from David Cronenberg’s broken family frightener THE BROOD!

One of this writer’s favorite horror films of all time, THE BROOD uses simplicity to its advantage, drawing atmospheric chills from the glimpses of a creepier threat. Cronenberg shows you only what he wants to reveal with magnificent patience, brilliantly mounting suspense until its graphic, jaw-dropping climax. It’s one of the director’s most underseen (and underrated) films, so be careful of some spoilers in the photographs below, but if you’re a fan of this seminal shocker, then check out the excellent assembly of pictures from THE BROOD below!
