H.R. Giger Doc, “DARK STAR”, Sets Release Date

Iconic visual artist, innovator and father of the ALIEN, H. R. Giger (1940-2014) is set to be celebrated with a brand new documentary from filmmaker Belinda Sallin. DARK STAR: H.R. GIGER’S WORLD is a mesmerizing investigation into Giger’s enigmatic, erotic and frightening paintings, sculptures and multi-media work, the likes of which has influenced music, tattoo culture, fetish art and of course, science fiction, horror and dark fantasy filmmaking.

The film also addresses Giger’s complex relationship to the art world, where he defied traditional categories and embraced commercial projects for musicians including Debbie Harry, Korn, Emerson, Lake and Palmer and the Dead Kennedys. Fittingly enshrined in a museum dedicated to his work, Giger’s output includes sculpture, painting, drawing, film and architecture, integrating meticulous technique with a instantly-recognizable sensibility that has inspired generations of nightmares.

Currently and quietly previewing at select international festivals, DARK STAR: H.R. GIGER’S WORLD will open theatrical on May 15th, 2015 in New York, LA and San Francisco with wider dates planned around the U.S. and Canada to follow.
