International Horror Invades the 2014 Samain Du Cinéma Fantastique in FranceNews Fangoria Staff
La Samain du Cinéma Fantastique is a film festival held annually over the Halloween period on the Cote d’Azur in the South of France and is wholly dedicated to Fantasy, Horror and Sci-Fi films. From the 28th of October until the 1st of November, weird cinema lovers are treated to an eclectic film program consisting of premieres, short films and screenings of cult features, as well as special events such as master classes, music concerts and even a zombie walk.
In previous years, the festival premiered films such as GRAVITY, TAKE SHELTER, THOR: THE DARK WORLD, AMERICAN MARY, EXCISION, THE HUMAN CENTIPEDE and RUBBER. Celebrating its fifth anniversary, this year, the Samain du cinéma fantastique will host two world premieres, FANTASTICHERIE, the first full length feature film by director Paolo Gaudio, and HOSTILE, a French survival movie directed by gifted young 15 year-old director Nathan Ambrosioni (see the trailer, below).
Also making their French cinema debuts THE EDITOR (Adam Brooks, Matt Kennedy, Canada), CREEP (Patrick Brice, USA), DER SAMURAI (Till Kleinert, Germany), QUEEN OF BLOOD (Chris Alexander, Canada), WHY DON’T YOU PLAY IN HELL? (Sono Sion, Japan) and Ricky Bates’ SUBURBAN GOTHIC (USA). The Italian anthology film PHANTASMAGORIA (Mickael Abbate, Domiziano Cristopharo, Tiziano Martella) already bewitching festival goers across the globe, will also have its French premiere in Nice.
In the short film selection, there will be screenings of Jovanka Vuckovic’s THE GUEST, Rose McGowan’s DAWN, Maxime Chattam’s PAR ACQUIS DE CONSCIENCE, Lucile Hadzihalilovic’s NECTAR, Domiziano Cristopharo’s HOUSE OF SHELLS, a fan-film adaptation of DYLAN DOG, Izzy Lee’s PICKET, Pat Longstreth & Rob McLean’s HELLYFISH and Adan Jodorowsky’s THE VOICE THIEF starring the beautiful Asia Argento, and many more.
