“IT FOLLOWS” Trailer: Your First Look at Next Year’s Most Frightening FilmNews Samuel Zimmerman
IT FOLLOWS is really something. David Robert Mitchell’s second film, which takes the youthful authenticity of THE MYTH OF THE AMERICAN SLEEPOVER and layers true horror on top has torn up the festival circuit, receiving raves out of Cannes, Toronto and Fantastic Fest. The film will hit January’s Sundance Film Festival prior to an undetermined U.S. release by Radius-TWC. It’s hitting France before then, though and the country’s Metropolitan Films has debuted a sparse, eerie teaser.
Starring THE GUEST’s Maika Monroe, IT FOLLOWS concerns a sexually transmitted haunting. “After a romantic night out, a beautiful nineteen-year-old girl finds herself pursued by a legion of malevolent, lumbering phantoms that will pursue her forever — unless she passes the curse on to someone else.” The film tackles relationships of the young, sexual activity and does so with masterful composition, which will have you frantically searching the frame throughout.
