Japanese jaeger is front and center on new “PACIFIC RIM” poster

Last week was kaiju-heavy, but PACIFIC RIM is a film of techno tyrants as well and the latest teaser poster is a good, raucous look at Japan’s jaeger, Coyote Tango.

Coyote joins the likes of Gipsy Danger and Crimson Typhoon, man-made monsters created to do battle with Kaiju who’ve risen from the sea and subsequently threaten humanity. Typing that out has left me wide-eyed, as new monster clashing mythology from Guillermo del Toro really threatens to push me into goofy excitement.

PACIFIC RIM is set years after kaiju have become a part of life, when even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Idris Elba, Charlie Day and Ron Perlman co-star. PACIFIC RIM is out July 12. For more, keep an eye on the official Facebook.
