Jeffrey Dean Morgan joins “THE WALKING DEAD’ as infamous villain Negan

To be completely honest, there is rarely a show that can make it to six seasons and offering such compelling television as THE WALKING DEAD, even if the most recent episode wasn’t as exhilarating or contemplative as the ones that came before it. Nevertheless, fans of THE WALKING DEAD comic have been waiting for the appearance of a certain someone ever since Rick Grimes and his group made it to Alexandria, and finally, we know exactly when we are going to meet the one and only Negan, and who will be filling his sadistic shoes.

Filling a gap in THE WALKING DEAD that has been present ever since the demise of The Governor, Negan has served as one of the most outwardly villainous and irredeemable characters in the WALKING DEAD comics. And according to The Hollywood Reporter, THE POSSESSION actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be filling the role of Negan, debuting on the Season Six finale in 2016. While Negan’s arrival was more or less inevitable in the way the show has corrected its timeline to that of the comics, his appearance still raises a few questions: will Negan’s dialogue be shot twice for DVD/Blu-ray releases to feature the coarse vernacular that comic fans are so familiar with? Will we get to see any of Negan’s backstory in Season Seven? And does this give fans a little more hope that you-know-who might be alive, if for the most bittersweet reason?

Morgan will appear as a guest star in the Greg Nicotero-directed finale of THE WALKING DEAD next year before being promoted to regular cast for season seven, which will presumably hit October of 2016. Interestingly enough, according to THR, Morgan had some stiff competition for the role, which included JUSTIFIED’s Timothy Olyphant, WAYWARD PINES’ Matt Dillon and DEADWOOD’s Garrett Dillahunt, who was most recently rumored for the role.
