“JUG FACE” release plans announced; new posterMovies/TV,News Michael Gingold
Having creeped out festival audiences, Modernciné’s rural horror-drama JUG FACE is rolling out in a tiered release plan this summer, and the details have just come in, along with the new poster.
After debuting at Slamdance earlier this year (writer/director Chad Crawford Kinkle’s script won that fest’s Grand Prize Screenwriting Award in 2011), JUG FACE will open in theaters via Modernciné’s domestic releasing arm Modern Distributors August 9, with day-and-date VOD availability. (There will also be select pre-theatrical VOD release July 8.) Produced by Andrew van den Houten and Robert Tonino, JUG FACE stars THE WOMAN’s Lauren Ashley Carter (pictured above) as Ada, a girl in a backwoods community who tries to stave off her fate as a sacrifice to a mysterious creature in a pit in the woods that is worshipped by her family and neighbors. The cast also includes Sean Bridgers, Larry Fessenden, Sean Young and Daniel Manche; Lucky McKee was one of the executive producers, along with Arrien Schiltkamp and Loren Semmens.
“Chad Crawford Kinkle’s uniquely original southern Gothic tale is filled with amazing performances and beautiful cinematography,” van den Houten says. “We believed in the project from the beginning and are pleased to be supporting its domestic release through Modern Distributors, our new-founded distribution and film sales arm. JUG FACE is exactly the kind of director-driven filmmaking we will continue to get behind.” Look for our magazine coverage of JUG FACE to begin in Fango #325, on sale in late June.
