Keep Your Appointment with “THE WICKER MAN” Final Cut on BluMovies/TV,News Ken W. Hanley
Fright fans, the wait is over. Lionsgate has announced that Robin Hardy’s final cut of THE WICKER MAN, which was released earlier this year for the film’s 40th anniversary, will be getting the Blu-ray treatment for the first time in the U.S. Even better is that the film is reportedly hitting shelves in mere days, as the Blu-ray will arrive on January 7th, alongside the re-mastered version’s VOD debut.
Also announced is the package’s cover art and special features, which includes a restoration comparison featurette, a featurette on the film’s music, a featurette of its legacy and an interview with director Robin Hardy.
For those unfamiliar, THE WICKER MAN is an incredible exercise in tension, subversion and eerieness, creating one of the most infamous endings of all time while giving viewers a hell of a journey getting there. Starring Edward Woodward and Christopher Lee, the story concerns the pious Sergeant Howie, who arrives on a remote Scottish island to investigate the disappearance of a young girl. There, he is confronted with religion outside his own and escalating behavior he finds morally questionable. The film has since had its reputation marred by an unfathomably bad remake and sub-par sequel (also directed by Hardy), but for those in the cult of THE WICKER MAN, this won’t be a disc to miss.
