“LUCIFER” Series & Comic Release Dates AnnouncedBooks/Art/Culture,News Svetlana Fedotov
If Satan was truly in charge of corrupting America’s youth, then DC’s LUCIFER is blowing the horn like a charismatic pied piper. A staple of not only DC/Vertigo’s repertoire, but the comic world in general, LUCIFER has finally hit it big after twenty six years with his very own TV show on FOX. While the show has been long in development, with only a couple of TV spots to whet our appetites, a release date for the supernaturally charged series has finally been announced via Deadline: January 25th, 2016, on the heels of the premiere episode of THE X-FILES reboot/mini-series.
The plot will be staying true to the LUCIFER mythos created by Mike Carey in the comic version, including having him retire from Hell in L.A. and run a piano bar called The Lux. It will also feature his confidant Mazikeen, a daughter of Lilith, and will focus on him helping the LAPD by punishing criminals all the while questioning his own moral compass. No word on demons or angels or John Constantine showing up (as the character recently did in ARROW), but with his luck, at least two of those three would decide to wreck his good times.
Of course, DC would be foolish to not follow up the release of the show without a comic tie-in, and after announcing a new LUCIFER comic run this past July as part of new, 12-issue series launch, a release date has finally been declared: December 18th, 2015. A solid month before the show debuts, readers can prepare themselves with the new work created by Holly Black and Lee Garbett.
For those unfamiliar with the announced LUCIFER comic, here’s the official synopsis…
“The anti-hero who made his debut in THE SANDMAN and starred in his own hit series is back in a new series by best-selling writer Holly Black (THE SPIDERWICK CHRONICLES) and artist Lee Garbett (LOKI)! As this series begins, God is dead-and Gabriel has accused Lucifer of His murder. Lucifer had motive and opportunity, but claims he can prove his innocence. If Gabriel finds the killer and takes the culprit into custody, his sins will be forgotten, and he’ll be welcomed back to Silver City. So, despite the fact that Lucifer just opened a nightclub on Earth and is hiding a mysterious wound, the two brothers set off to solve their Father’s murder. Their investigation will span Heaven, Hell, Earth and beyond in this antagonistic buddy-cop noir with an angelic flair.”
Sounds like Lucifer is in for a hell of a ride both on the small screen and on the page. Keep an eye peeled here at FANGORIA.com for more on DC’s devilish LUCIFER run as well as the surely sinister series.
