Magnet to Fund, Release All-Female Directed Horror Anthology “XX”News Samuel Zimmerman
Announced last fall, it seems the female-driven horror anthology XX is finally ready to go, as Magnet Releasing has come aboard to fully fund and release worldwide.
A thrilling prospect considering its contributors, XX aims for an ensemble of female filmmakers to tell female-led horror stories. XX will excitingly feature work from a roster of talented filmmakers we’ve yet to see enough from including Mary Harron (AMERICAN PSYCHO), Karyn Kusama (the vastly undervalued JENNIFER’S BODY), Jennifer Lynch (SURVEILLANCE) and Jovanka Vuckovic, who’s also currently developing an adaptation of Clive Barker’s “Jacqueline Ess: Her Will and Testament.”
The press release follows:
The directors have been given free creative rein within budget and time constraints, but all of the segments themselves will involve the horror genre.
“Magnet has been the home to the most exciting anthology horror films of the last several years, and we’re very pleased to continue the trend with XX. We’re especially excited about the caliber of filmmakers involved with this anthology, and the fresh approach that it’s taking to the horror genre,” said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles.
“We believe strongly in fostering the best talents around the world at XYZ. We believe different perspectives are what keep storytelling fresh and exciting and hope that XX can help to encourage more female writers and directors to explore the genre world. And we know the ones we have for this first effort are going to absolutely kick ass,” said XYZ’s Todd Brown.
XX is expected to be completed in 2015.
