Magnolia/Magnet confirms pickup of Ti West’s “THE SACRAMENT”

Reports circulated several days ago that one of the top indie distributors was about to snap up the latest from the director of THE HOUSE OF THE DEVIL and THE INNKEEPERS, and now the company has confirmed it.

Magnolia Pictures just made it official: The company’s Magnet Releasing genre division has acquired North American rights to THE SACRAMENT, Ti West’s cult chiller starring HOUSE’s AJ Bowen, YOU’RE NEXT’s Joe Swanberg and Amy Seimetz and Gene Jones, which recently played the Toronto and Venice Film Festivals. Magnet previously handled West’s HOUSE, INNKEEPERS and the anthologies V/H/S and THE ABCs OF DEATH, to which the director contributed. Eli Roth, Jacob Jaffke, Peter Phok, and Worldview’s Christopher Woodrow and Molly Conners produced THE SACRAMENT, in which Bowen and Swanberg play VICE Media reporters who travel to a religious compound in Central America with a photographer (Kentucker Audley) seeking his sister (Seimetz), and discover the dark doings occurring within the community.

“There is no distributor as dedicated to consistently bringing the highest quality independent films to audiences nationwide, whether it be through theatrical, or video on demand,” West says. “This will be my fifth collaboration with Magnolia Pictures, and I couldn’t be happier. They are the perfect home for a genre-bending, confronting film like THE SACRAMENT.” Adds Magnolia president Eamonn Bowles, “We’re incredibly pleased to be furthering our fruitful collaboration with Ti, who continues to be one of the most exciting genre filmmakers working today. It is high praise and no understatement to say that THE SACRAMENT is Ti’s best film to date.”

“I’m thrilled to have Magnolia releasing the film,” says Roth. “Ti West made an incredibly smart, tense thriller with riveting performances and Magnet is the perfect distributor to really position this film to cross over with fans and critics alike. The response in Toronto was phenomenal, and we’re thrilled audiences across the country will get to discover what many consider Ti’s best movie.”
