“MANIAC” and more screening free at Texas Frightmare Weekend

The organizers of Dallas’ Texas Frightmare Weekend are planning a hell of a show for its next event in early May, and have booked a trio of eagerly awaited flicks from IFC Films that will be free for passholders.

Texas Frightmare takes place at Dallas’ Hyatt Regency DFW Friday-Sunday, May 3-5, boasting a guest lineup including ALIEN’s Tom Skeritt and Veronica Cartwright, Danny Trejo, Virginia Madsen, the cast of AMC’s THE WALKING DEAD, Michael Berryman, Jeffrey Combs, Stuart Gordon, Heather Langenkamp, Tyler Mane, Bill Moseley, Steve Niles, Tom Savini, Dee Wallace and many others. The IFC triple feature, which is free for weekend and Saturday passholders, kicks off at 8 p.m. with the Texas premiere of MANIAC (pictured above), Franck Khalfoun’s remake of the William Lustig classic, starring Elijah Wood as the scalping psychopath. It’s followed at 10 p.m. by SIGHTSEERS, the latest from KILL LIST’s Ben Wheatley, starring Steve Oram and Alice Lowe (who also scripted) as a dysfunctional couple whose vacation through the British countryside comes to have a body count. Wrapping up at midnight is the Texas premiere of BYZANTIUM, Neil Jordan’s variation on the vampire genre starring Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan. Texas Frightmare’s bulletin also reveals that IFC will release BYZANTIUM to theaters and on VOD June 28; MANIAC, as we exclusively reported yesterday, arrives June 21, and SIGHTSEERS sees release May 10.
