Marilyn Manson shooting warped, Lewis Carroll-inspired “PHANTASMAGORIA”

Fans of industrial metal star Marilyn Manson know that the offbeat singer has long flirted with the world of film, having appeared in LOST HIGHWAY, RISE: BLOOD HUNTER and recently, Quentin Dupieux’s surreal comedy WRONG COPS. However, Manson may finally be showing off his leading man talents as his directorial debut, the long-gestating PHANTASMAGORIA: THE VISIONS OF LEWIS CARROLL, has quietly found financing and is currently in production.

The film was ready to start production in 2010, but little has been heard since. According to Manson’s twitter, the picture (co-written with Anthony Silva) is currently filming however, with Manson starring as a tormented version of Lewis Carroll whose sanity is compromised by insomnia, hallucinations and increasingly volatile nightmares while locked away in his castle.

Not much is known about the film aside from the leaked teaser from 2010 and the fact that it’s in production, but expect more details to come to light soon. PHANTASMAGORIA has previously been described as follows: Victorian England. A haunted writer in an isolated castle is tormented by sleepless nights and visions of a girl named Alice. He finds himself becoming a symptom of his own invention. “Now all my nightmares know my name.” He is Lewis Carroll. Terrified of what waits for him each night.

In the mean time, Manson fans should get excited, as development on Manson’s other horror project, the Shia Labeouf-directed KILL THE ARCHITECT, remains a mystery following Labeouf’s recent troubles. You can find Manson’s announcement, as well as the aforementioned early teaser below.
