“OCULUS” Director to Adapt “GERALD’S GAME”

Director Mike Flanagan, who made such an impression with ABSENTIA and this spring saw the release of the very neat OCULUS has turned his eye away from the developing DIVER for a major adaptation: Stephen King’s GERALD’S GAME.

Also known as the one Stephen King book my mother wouldn’t let me read as a child, GERALD’S GAME finds a married couple’s contests of kink escalate right out of control. Deadline reports Flanagan wrote the script alongside Jeff Howard, who also co-wrote OCULUS and Flanagan’s upcoming SOMNIA and DIVER. The director says, “In the tradition of MISERY and DOLORES CLAIBORNE, GERALD’S GAME is one of the most intense and compelling novels I’ve ever read, and this has been a dream project for many years. Trevor [Macy, Producer] and I are very excited to help translate that experience for an audience.”
