Montreal Horrorfest Film Festival: First Wave Announced!

The Montreal HorrorFest is back for its third year, rolling out a miasma of morbid programming and gory guests geared toward the genre, including a diverse film festival component that spotlights genre pictures from around the world. FANGORIA got the scoop on the first wave of those fright flicks and you can have look for yourself in the list below…

6- GHOST BRIDE (New Zealand, 82min)

Supernatural thriller from New Zealand filmmaker David Blyth following the romance between Chinese immigrant Jason Chen and Kiwi girl Skye. When Chen proposes to Skye, tensions arise from his PARENTS and the woman they wanted him to wed, Mei Ling. But the traditional Chinese culture clash is nothing compared to the conflict of two worlds: the living and the dead.

7- EVANGELINE (Canada, 85min)

03- JACK ATTACK (USA, 8 min)

Jack’s favorite babysitter Elizabeth introduces him to the art of pumpkin carving on Halloween night. Nothing will ever be the same.

04- FOOL’S DAY (USA, 19 min)
Directed by: Cody Blue Snider
Starring: Mitchell Jarvis, Justin Absatz, Phyllis Bowen

FOOL’S DAY is a dark comedy about a 4th grade class that pull an innocent, April Fool’s prank on their teacher…that accidentally kills her. Panicked and convinced they will go to prison, the blood splattered classmates try to cover up the murder and dispose of the body before their D.A.R.E. officer shows up for his weekly lesson.

05- CALL GIRL (USA, 06 min)

In one man’s attempt to exploit his date night via video-chat, he ends up sharing something far more disturbing.

A married couple go on a road trip to rekindle their marriage, leading to disastrous results. Written and produced by BLOOD IN THE SNOW Film Festival founder Kelly Michael Stewart.

08- KILLER KART (USA, 15 min)

09- TUMBLING AFTER  (Canada, 7min)
Directed by: Nicholas Humphries
Starring: Cillian Clark-Bojin, Dawson Dunbar, Guillaume Fournet

Jack and Jill went up a hill to fetch a pail of water. Jack fell down and broke his crown, but Jill would not Tumble After… Highlighting themes of gender discrimination in Victorian England,  Tumbling After tells the story of eight-year old Jill, the oppression she faces from her family, and her childish recourse to stories and imagination leading up to her bizarre revenge.

10- THE TOUR (UK, 15 min)
Directed by: Alex Mathieson, Damon Rickard
Starring: Jessica Cameron, Heather Dorff, Tom Gordon

Darkmoor Manor is England’s most haunted house, its doors closed to the public. It is now just part of a tour which helps attracts visitors to a struggling town. That is until the tour guide, trying to impress two attractive American visitors promises to get them inside. But none of them could be prepared for what was waiting within the shadows of the house.
