New writer named for “FRIDAY THE 13TH” reboot

The twisted trail of the next FRIDAY THE 13TH movie has taken another turn, as a high-profile scriptwriter is being attached to the project.

Variety reports that Aaron Guzikowski is in discussions to become the latest scribe on the new FRIDAY for Paramount Pictures and Platinum Dunes. Guzikowski, who won plenty of notice for penning the 2013 thriller PRISONERS, has become a go-to guy for remakes lately, having also scripted Universal’s upcoming THE WOLF MAN (see story here) and currently working on a new version of the Steve McQueen classic PAPILLON. Platinum Dunes’ Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller will produce the latest FRIDAY, which has had a fairly tortured development; it was previously conceived as a found-footage flick, but that approach was abandoned and, earlier this year, HANNIBAL’s Nick Antosca was tapped to script with V/H/S and THE SIGNAL’s David Bruckner directing. The movie is currently slated for release January 13, 2017.
