No happily ever “AFTER” for Chris Carter series

THE X FILES and MILLENNIUM creator Chris Carter’s return to genre programming isn’t going to make it past the pilot.

Variety reports that Amazon Studios has pulled the plug on Carter’s new show THE AFTER, after debuting the pilot via its Amazon Prime service last February. An eight-episode series order for THE AFTER was given last March, with a premiere slated for early this year, but no other episodes were ever produced. “We have decided to not move forward with THE AFTER,” Amazon VP Roy Price says in an official statement. “We would like to thank Chris Carter, the phenomenal cast, crew and producers for all their efforts.”

THE AFTER, which Carter had said was inspired by Dante’s INFERNO, revolved around eight strangers fighting to survive in a violent new world following an apocalyptic event. Adrian Pasdar, Sharon Lawrence, SCREAM’s Jamie Kennedy, Aldis Hodge, Andrew Howard, Arielle Kebbel, Sam Littlefield, Louise Monot and Jaina Lee Ortiz starred in the pilot, which can still be viewed via Amazon Instant Video.
