There’s been a flurry of buying activity in the horror world taking place around the Toronto Film Festival this week, and now an international genre piece that’s still currently shooting has been picked up for North American release: LA PIEL QUE HABITO (THE SKIN I LIVE IN) by top Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar (pictured).
Deadline first reported that Sony Pictures Classics acquired those distribution rights—marking the 10th time the company has handled an Almodóvar film. LA PIEL, which we previously reported on here, is a Gothic psychological chiller starring Antonio Banderas as a plastic surgeon who avenges his daughter’s rape in horrific fashion, and also stars FRAGILE’s Elena Anaya and THE DEVIL’S BACKBONE’s Marisa Paredes. It’s loosely based on Thierry Jonquet’s novel MYGALE and is currently shooting in Spain.
