Playwright Polly Stenham to pen Nic Refn’s horror film, “I WALK WITH THE DEAD”

Nicolas Winding Refn, whose films already live within a heightened, genre-influenced world (see: VALHALLA RISING, the amazing ONLY GOD FORGIVES) has expressed interest in recent years of making a full tilt horror picture. Now, with a writer on board, I WALK WITH THE DEAD may be next.

Speaking to The Standard, acclaimed English playwright Polly Stenham revealed she’ll tackle the female-centric I WALK WITH THE DEAD. She explains, “He’s got a lot of stick for doing films some people think are violently misogynistic. So he approached me with the idea of doing something different.”

Refn has long spoken of I WALK WITH THE DEAD being a female heavy ensemble, with highly sexual themes and content. Carey Mulligan has previously been attached.

The filmmaker’s hypnotic, violent and wonderful ONLY GOD FORGIVES is out this week on DVD and Blu-ray. It comes highly recommended. For more, see our talk with Refn about the film here.
