Refn’s “NEON DEMON” Begins Production in L.A.

,

Of course, to the gang over here at FANGORIA, Nicolas Winding Refn is perpetually an artist to watch, using a unique visual style and uncompromising cinematic voice to tell provocative yet beautiful stories. And when Refn, a longtime horror fanatic, announced his next project would be a female-centric genre picture, and one inspired by the tales of Elizabeth Bathory no less, we of course have been waiting with baited breath. And now, that wait is getting a little more difficult, as THE NEON DEMON officially began production today in Los Angeles.

As per the official press release, here’s the synopsis and Refn’s latest comments on the project:

When aspiring model Jesse moves to Los Angeles, her youth and vitality are devoured by a group of beauty-obsessed women who will take any means necessary to get what she has.

Regarding the commencement of principle photography, Refn said, “I very much look forward to the odyssey I’ll be taking with all these wonderful actresses (and a few guys) to travel beyond THE NEON DEMON where all I see is the wicked dying young.”

Directing from his script co-written by Mary Laws, Refn’s NEON DEMON stars Elle Fanning (TWIXT), Jena Malone (DONNIE DARKO), Karl Glusman (STARSHIP TROOPERS: INVASION), Bella Heathcote (DARK SHADOWS), Abbey Lee (MAD MAX: FURY ROAD), Desmond Harrington (DEXTER), Christina Hendricks (DRIVE) and Keanu Reeves (JOHN WICK). We’ll be keeping a close eye on this sure-to-be-surreal fright flick, so check back here soon for more on THE NEON DEMON!
