Release dates set for “CHRISTMAS HORROR STORY,” “BONE TOMAHAWK” and more

As summer winds down, it’s time to prepare for the fall chill in the air, and we just learned of a number of release dates for movies set to scare you in the coming season.

Spreading some Yuletide fear a little early will be A CHRISTMAS HORROR STORY (pictured above), which premiered last month at Montreal’s Fantasia (see story here) and opens October 2 from RLJ Entertainment. The creators of the GINGER SNAPS franchise (including Steven Hoban, Brett Sullivan and Grant Harvey) were behind this anthology of interwoven tales involving Krampus, ghosts, a weapon-wielding Santa Claus and more, all tied together by appearances of DJ “Dangerous Dan,” played by William Shatner.

Coming three weeks later from RLJ, on October 23, is BONE TOMAHAWK, the horror/Western/action hybrid from writer/director S. Craig Zahler (story here). Kurt Russell, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fox, Richard Jenkins and Lili Simmons star in this Wild West tale of a quartet of men who set out to rescue a group of people who have been abducted by cannibalistic cave dwellers. More action-oriented but still of Fangorian interest is TOKYO TRIBE, out from XLrator Media on the 23rd; it’s the latest from cult filmmaker Sion Sono, dealing with warring gangs in an alternate Japan.

On November 6, XLrator will unleash WRECKER, Michael Bafaro’s saga of a psychopathic tow-truck driver who terrorizes a pair of road-tripping friends (Anna Hutchison and Drea Whitburn). Then, on November 13, RLJ issues CONDEMNED, written and directed by Eli Morgan Gesner, starring Dylan Penn (daughter of Sean) and SOME KIND OF HATE’s Ronen Rubinstein as a couple dealing with pathogen-infected, blood-crazed tenants of the apartment building where they’re squatting. See our first set report on CONDEMNED here, and look for more coverage of these movies at this site and in Fango’s pages in the coming months!
