Scream Factory Takes Miike’s “DEAD BODY”; Details “FAREWELL TO THE FLESH”

Continuing their interest in horror titles both new and classic, beloved home video label and Shout! Factory offshoot Scream Factory has acquired Takashi Miike’s return to horror OVER YOUR DEAD BODY and detailed their upcoming Blu of CANDYMAN sequel, FAREWELL TO THE FLESH.

Variety reports that Scream announced the deal—which includes home entertainment, theatrical, digital and broadcast in the U.S. and Canada—out of the currently running American Film Market in Los Angeles. The film, Miike’s latest, concerns “A theatre troupe rehearsing a classic play of murder, betrayal and phantasmagorical vengeance. Soon, the ensemble finds life bloodily imitating art backstage.”

OVER YOUR DEAD BODY, which most recently hit the Toronto International Film Festival and Austin’s Fantastic Fest, is something of an atmospheric and effective yarn, building tension and character until Miike’s expected nuttiness slides in. You can read our review out of TIFF right here. The film joins Scream Factory’s newest contemporary release, the effective Colombian military horror THE SQUAD.

Meanwhile, Scream Factory also updated us on a more immediate title, the January release of the Bill Condon-directed CANDYMAN: FAREWELL TO THE FLESH. The second film in the series, which stars Tony Todd as the mythical killer, will hit Blu-ray on January 6th, accompanied by and Audio Commentary with director Bill Condon; THE CANDYMAN LEGACY – a new interview with Tony Tood (25 mins); DOWN MEMORY LANE – a new interview with Veronica Cartwright (12 mins); and the film’s Theatrical Trailer.

In FAREWELL TO THE FLESH, Candyman “haunts the city of New Orleans, where a young schoolteacher named Annie Tarrant (Kelly Rowan) is struggling to solve the brutal murder of her father. The locals insist that he was slain by the Candyman, but Annie is not convinced… until she unwittingly summons the monster forth, learns the secret of his power, and discovers the link that connects her to him.”
