SDCC15: WGN America’s “SALEM” Renewed for a Third Season

While most horror fans have kept their eyes on the various television terrors at San Diego Comic Con this year, including new looks at DAMIEN, ASH VS. EVIL DEAD, OUTCAST, HANNIBAL, FEAR THE WALKING DEAD and THE WALKING DEAD, some great news has dropped about one of FANGORIA’s favorite fright shows: WGN America’s SALEM. The sinister, salacious series provided one of the strongest seasons of horror television in its second year, and as one might have suspected, the series was announced for a third season renewal at San Diego Comic Con by the cast and crew of the series.

As per the same panel, the show has been renewed for a full thirteen episode order to debut in 2016, with the main cast and co-creators Brannon Braga and Adam Simon returning as well. However, with the way season 2 ended, one wonders how exactly the show will proceed: while no one necessarily expects season 2 guest stars Lucy Lawless and Stuart Townsend to return (at least outside of a hallucinatory capacity), much of the core SALEM characters were left with their fates in the air, with at least two longstanding characters dead and several others in various states of compromise. In any case, however, that same bravado is what makes SALEM as fun as it is, and if the standard of writing, performances and FX are to keep in line with season two, then season three can’t come fast enough.

Expect to hear more on SALEM season three at FANGORIA.com as news becomes available!
