“SHERLOCK” star atop del Toro’s “CRIMSON PEAK”

The filming of Guillermo del Toro’s haunted-house chiller CRIMSON PEAK is nearly a year away, but he’s already assembling a strong cast, and just landed an impressive male lead.

Variety reports that Benedict Cumberbatch, who has the title role on TV’s SHERLOCK and appears later this year in STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS and THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG, has joined Charlie Hunnam (from del Toro’s upcoming PACIFIC RIM) and Emma Stone in CRIMSON PEAK. The director and Lucinda Coxon are currently rewriting an earlier version of the script by del Toro and Matthew Robbins, whose story specifics are being kept under wraps. Legendary Pictures is producing the movie, with Universal retaining an option to co-finance in the future; production is scheduled to roll in Feburary 2014.
