“SINISTER 2”, “KRAMPUS” and more horror coming to San Diego Comic Con!

While San Diego and New York Comic Con have largely been a mecca for geek culture and all of its facets,  the immensely popular event has also been the home for horror fans to get their first look at the latest in upcoming frights. And while the impending ASH VS. EVIL DEAD panel looks to be among the horror highlights of the 2015 San Diego Comic Con, there will be more than enough gruesome goodness to go around as several fright flicks will be on hand to scare during the 4-day convention, including the latest on the big and small screen…

First off, Blumhouse will surprisingly have little presence this year at the event, considering 80% of this year’s theatrical horror outings are produced or distributed from the company, and post-SDCC fare will include THE GIFT, THE VISIT, SINISTER 2, PARANORMAL ACTIVITY: THE GHOST DIMENSION, THE GREEN INFERNO, AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING, SOUTH OF HELL and more, as well as non-horror fare JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS and IN THE VALLEY OF VIOLENCE. And while no panel for any of these has been announced yet, FANGORIA can confirm SINISTER 2 will have a presence at the con, as there will be an interactive SINISTER Scavenger Hunt throughout San Diego’s Gaslamp District from July 9th to 11th. Stay tuned for more information on that closer to the con.

Another horror property that will have a presence at San Diego Comic Con will be James Cullen Bressack’s PERNICIOUS, which will give fans of the extreme auteur outside of the L.A. area a chance to see the movie for free! Presented by the good folks at Benetone Films, the PERNICIOUS screening will be held on Friday, July 10th at 10:10 p.m. at the Hyatt Coronado Ballroom; it will be free for all SDCC passholders, and cast & crew will be present as well.

Furthermore, Scream Factory will make their presence known at San Diego Comic Con; aside from the leaked announcements of TALES FROM THE CRYPT: DEMON KNIGHT and BORDELLO OF BLOOD as well as the collector’s edition of ARMY OF DARKNESS, Scream Factory will be announcing 10 new titles at SDCC during their Friday Night panel at 7:30 p.m. What titles may they be? At this point, it is anyone’s guess, but considering their budding relationship with Universal, one can hope for some excellent new additions to their release canon. Personally, this writer has his fingers crossed for a JAWS 2 announcement, but only time will tell…

As for other High Def consumer, you won’t want to miss Saturday’s Warner Archives panel (at 2 p.m.), featuring a tribute to Hammer Horror, Christopher Lee and Ray Harryhausen that will be moderated by none other than fright icon Joe Dante. Look for more title announcements from that panel as well…

On the television side of things, A&E’s OMEN series, DAMIEN, and Fox’s LUCIFER will be hosting panels on Thursday, July 9th, while FEAR THE WALKING DEAD, SHARKNADO 3, THE WALKING DEAD, ASH VS. EVIL DEAD and SLEEPY HOLLOW will all get respective panels on Friday, July 10th. Meanwhile, Saturday will serve as host to HANNIBAL at it’s potentially last Comic Con appearance, as well as GRIMM, SALEM, Robert Kirkman’s OUTCAST and Z NATION. As for the rest of the convention, SCREAM QUEENS will have its premiere on Saturday Night at San Diego Comic Con, with a SCREAM QUEENS / AMERICAN HORROR STORY panel on Sunday, as well as panels for THE STRAIN and SUPERNATURAL on Sunday as well.

And lastly, there will be some high profile studio genre pictures offering a deeper look at the convention as well, including Breck (THE CRAZIES) Eisner’s THE LAST WITCH HUNTER on Thursday, a Legendary panel on Saturday with looks at Guillermo del Toro’s CRIMSON PEAK and Michael Dougherty’s KRAMPUS as well as a Screen Gems panel on Saturday with the first look at PRIDE & PREJUDICE & ZOMBIES as well as the Natalie Dormer-starring PATIENT ZERO.

Lastly, FANGORIA has learned that Clive Barker will have a presence at SDCC, with a booth that will have the latest from the macabre mastermind himself! Original artworks and an exclusive launch of the Clive Barker Society will be in Century Guild’s booth #2845 right at the center intersection of the show floor.
