Sony dates “DARK TOWER,” new “RESIDENT EVIL” and “UNDERWORLD” movies

A film adaptation of Stephen King’s DARK TOWER book series has been in the works forever, but now there’s finally a release date for the feature version to look forward to, along with the returns of a couple of long-running franchises.

Sony Pictures has announced a full slate of debut dates for its 2016/2017 titles, and among them are the first DARK TOWER movie, opening January 13, 2017; RESIDENT EVIL 6, coming two weeks later on January 27; and UNDERWORLD 5, arriving October 21, 2016. Nikolaj Arcel is directing THE DARK TOWER, while the film a.k.a. RESIDENT EVIL: THE FINAL CHAPTER returns Paul W.S. Anderson to the director’s chair and Milla Jovovich (pictured above in RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE), Wentworth Miller and Ali Larter before the camera, and Kate Beckinsale is back for the latest UNDERWORLD, helmed by Anna Foerster. Also on the Sony slate: Stefan Ruzowitzky’s infection-horror opus PATIENT ZERO starring Natalie Dormer, Stanley Tucci and Matt Smith, set for September 2, 2016.
