Stephen King film “CELL” set for FrightFest world premiere

We’ve been waiting for a while to hear when the screen adaptation of Stephen King’s novel CELL will be unveiled, and now we have an answer.

CELL, which reunites the stars of the hit King flick 1408, John Cusack and Samuel L. Jackson, will have its world premiere as part of the Film4 Frightfest lineup at Scotland’s Glasgow Film Festival, which runs February 17-28. Scripted by King and the LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT remake’s Adam Alleca, and directed by PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 2’s Tod Williams, CELL features Cusack as an artist who teams up with other survivors to stop a virulent cell-phone signal that has turned the population into mindless killers. Isabelle Fuhrman, who played the title role in ORPHAN, and Stacy Keach also star; a U.S. distributor has yet to be nailed down.

The Glasgow section of Frightfest, which takes place Thursday-Saturday, February 25-27, will also include eight UK premieres: Jason Zada’s THE FOREST, Sean Byrne’s THE DEVIL’S CANDY, Sonny Mallhi’s ANGUISH, Joe Begos’ THE MIND’S EYE, Jesse Thomas Cook’s THE HEXECUTIONERS, Can Evrenol’s BASKIN, the multidirector anthology SOUTHBOUND and the Goetz Brothers’ MARTYRS remake. Also screening are the European premieres of Tyler MacIntyre’s PATCHWORK and Johannes Roberts’ THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DOOR, and the Scottish premieres of Roar Uthaug’s THE WAVE and Sol Cheang’s SPL2: A TIME FOR CONSEQUENCES, plus a sneak preview of Paul Hyett’s HERETIKS and a number of short films.
