Story Revealed, Cast Confirmed for Bustillo & Maury’s “LEATHERFACE”

Whether you liked it or not, TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D’s success guaranteed that the franchise would continue buzzing and maiming along, although some would hope with a bit more innovation than the previous entry. Of course, hope for that innovation came in the form of French directing duo Bustillo & Maury (INSIDE, LIVID, AMONG THE LIVING) taking the reigns of the prequel, which will examine Leatherface’s transition from troubled teen to terrifying tormentor. And now, FANGORIA has some more information on who else will be coming face-to-face with LEATHERFACE.

According to an exclusive report from Deadline, LEATHERFACE will follow four violent teens who escape from a mental hospital, kidnap a young nurse and take her on a horrific road trip, all while being pursued by a sadistic and unhinged lawman. In that same report, Deadline has also confirmed the rumored participation of Stephen Dorff, who will be filling the role of the aforementioned lawman, Hartman. Dorff is joining a cast that includes Sam Strike, James Bloor and Angela Bettis (who is set to play the matriarch of the Sawyer Clan.) Furthermore, the film will be a mystery of sorts, revealing over the course of the film which teen will eventually become it’s titular character.

To be honest, as someone who was not a fan of TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D, this 180-degree spin is quite exciting, especially considering how well Bustillo & Maury dealt with teen-driven horror in AMONG THE LIVING. Hopefully, LEATHERFACE will finally bring their twisted sensibilities stateside again, and fans will once more get a LEATHERFACE story that they deserve. And as a side note, if this version goes on to be an origin story for Chop-top too, Millennium can take my money now.
