The New “FRANKENSTEIN” Gets a Frankenstein

The Max Landis-scripted upcoming re-adaptation of FRANKENSTEIN has long had HARRY POTTER’s Daniel Radcliffe on board as servant Igor. But who would be the doctor?

Deadline is reporting Scottish actor James McAvoy (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, seen above in FILTH) will essay Victor Von Frankenstein in the film, to be directed by WICKER PARK and PUSH helmer Paul McGuigan. The film is apparently looking to be told from Igor’s perspective, a character created for the legendary 1931 film 1939 film SON OF FRANKENSTEIN (there spelled Ygor and played by Bela Lugosi) as graciously corrected by Facebook user Joseph Fotinos for me. The 1931 film did feature a hunchbacked servant, Fritz (Dwight Frye). The character has since been part of the FRANKENSTEIN story’s iconography.

Fox has set FRANKENSTEIN for an October 17, 2014 release date.
