The Serpent Slithers: “AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN” Poster is Rad

On multiple levels, this first poster for the upcoming witchy season of AMERICAN HORROR STORY is striking and exciting. The first, being aesthetically. The design is awesome and kinky and directly tied to the Voodoo and New Orleans location of AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN, as a major component of the religion is Li Grand Zombi, a snake deity. Zombie is also said to be the name of Marie Laveau’s pet snake. Angela Bassett portrays the New Orleans Voodoo practitioner in the series. Secondly, that prominent cast list features only one male. The rest, an ensemble of thrilling actresses sure to make this season something to behold. Here’s hoping some female directors get in on the fun, too.

In, AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN, Over 300 years have passed since the turbulent days of the Salem witch trials and those who managed to escape are now facing extinction. Mysterious attacks have been escalating against their kind and young girls are being sent away to a special school in New Orleans to learn how to protect themselves. Wrapped up in the turmoil is new arrival, Zoe (Taissa Farmiga), who is harboring a terrifying secret of her own. Alarmed by the recent aggression, Fiona (Jessica Lange), the long-absent Supreme, sweeps back into town, determined to protect the Coven and hell-bent on decimating anyone who gets in her way.

AMERICAN HORROR STORY: COVEN and its opening episode, “Bitchcraft” premiere October 9 on FX.
