Trailer: “AT THE DEVIL’S DOOR”, From the Director of “THE PACT”

Nicholas McCarthy, whose THE PACT was an eerie fest hit and certainly found acclaim with haunted house fans, turns his eye toward the devil in a new film about the spread of evil.

Formerly titled “Home,” AT THE DEVIL’S DOOR premiered this past March at SXSW. The film stars Catalina Sandino Moreno (MAGIC MAGIC) as “ambitious young real estate agent Leigh, who’s asked to sell a house with a checkered past. There, she crosses paths with a disturbed girl whom she learns is the runaway daughter of the couple selling the property. When Leigh tries to intervene and help her, she becomes entangled with a supernatural force that soon pulls Leigh’s artist sister Vera (GLEE’s Naya Rivera) into its web — and has sinister plans for both of them.”

Though admittedly AT THE DEVIL’S DOOR sounds standard, I recently caught the film at New York City’s Lower East Side Film Festival and found it a strangely compelling piece of work. McCarthy is ambitious in his ever-shifting perspective and really works to maintain an air of dread. He also makes some out-there choices that, whether you end up admiring the film or no, will likely stick with you.

IFC Midnight releases AT THE DEVIL’S DOOR on demand August 8th and in theaters September 12th.
