Trailer: Historical madness in “KILL LIST” director’s “A FIELD IN ENGLAND”

In what seems to be a bit of maddening military horror, the trailer for A FIELD IN ENGLAND reveals yet another film from Ben Wheatley to highly, highly anticipate.

Previously described as “a psychedelic trip into magic and madness,” the latest from KILL LIST and SIGHTSEERS director Wheatley looks incredible. The images sway between something nightmarish and mystical to raw and intimate, qualities we’ve seen Wheatley absolutely nail in previous works.

A FIELD IN ENGLAND is set in the 17th century, during the English Civil War. “A small group of deserters flee from a raging battle through an overgrown field. They are captured by two men: O’Neil and Cutler. O’Neil (Michael Smiley), an alchemist, forces the group to aid him in his search to find a hidden treasure that he believes is buried in the field. Crossing a vast mushroom circle, which provides their first meal, the group quickly descend into a chaos of arguments, fighting and paranoia, and, as it becomes clear that the treasure might be something other than gold, they slowly become victim to the terrifying energies trapped inside the field.”

The film will see a day-and-date release in cinemas, On Demand, DVD and television broadcast in the UK on July 5. Drafthouse Films have picked up the film in the U.S. and will release later in 2013.
